The Skimmate waste collectors have a twist-lock flange, which makes it much easier to clean. They also feature the highest quality John Guest hose barb input, and a new integral float chamber. These waste collectors are custom designed for a small foot-print, but a large volume. They feature O-Ring seals and a dedicated area for holding carbon for air filtering.
The units have a float in them that closes off the air outlet when the fluid level rises to near the top. This puts a slight back pressure on the skimmer, which shuts down the foam production and prevents the waste collector from overflowing. The float auto-resets when the container is emptied. If you have a protein skimmer, particularly a powerful skimmer like we sell, you must have a waste collector to prevent overflows. If something happens to your tank to make the skimmer foam like crazy, a properly designed waste collector will save the day and prevent too much water from escaping with the foam. You really, really want one of these.
The Waste collectors can be used with any Austin Oceans skimmer or any other skimmer that has an air-tight lid on the collection cup.
The Carbon air filter, which you supply (put some activated carbon in a mesh bag that will fit in the filter holder), removes most all of the odor that can be emitted from a skimmer's gunk. It is a MUST HAVE for any skimmer in a living area!

We can also easily do custom sizes for waste collectors. We have done some 27" tall waste collectors (holds 3 gallons) and could even do taller sizes (but you should empty your waste collector regularly).

A Skimmate 30 with almost 6 hours of output from a Foaminator MAX 5200. This is more than 1 foot of dark, nasty skimmate collected the first afternoon it was installed. When it got close to full, the Skimmate automatically stopped the skimmer output until it was emptied to prevent an overflow.
The output from an Austin Oceans Foaminator MAX protein skimmer is so dark and concentrated that it can block out the sun (which, in case you can't tell is shining directly behind the above Skimmate 30). Some protein skimmers produce skimmate that is described as "tea colored". But not our skimmers. Even the power of the sun can't penetrate this collection of skimmate.
